Actual model will be displayed soon.

This zero energy home is thoughtfully and creatively designed to improve the home living experience and reduce energy costs for generations to come.

SEED will soon begin construction on a zero energy home near Fleming Park in Bethesda.  This home is designed to generate all the energy a household requires on site, and therefore will not require any energy from the grid.    This breakthrough model will be on display for educational purposes before it is sold.

What Is A Zero Energy Home?

"A Zero Energy Home (ZEH) combines state-of-the-art, energy-efficient construction and appliances with commercially available renewable energy systems such as solar water heating and solar electricity. This combination can result in net zero energy consumption from the utility provider. Zero Energy Homes are
connected to the utility grid but can be designed and constructed to produce as much energy as they consume annually."

-National Renewable Energy Lab, US Department of Energy

Advantages of a Zero Energy Home

  • Improved Comfort - an energy-efficient building envelope provides airtight protection from temperature fluctuations.
  • Reliability - a Zero Energy Home can provide its own power during a blackout.
  • Security - a home that produces its own energy protects the owner from rising energy prices.
  • Environmental Sustainability - saves energy and reduces pollution.
